Orthodontics

In addition to a variety of implants and dentures as well as crowns and bridges, SWISS DENTAL LABORATORY is equipped to handle and manufacture cases involving orthodontic appliances for dentists and orthodontists.

At our dental laboratory, we have experience with the two main types of orthodontic appliances:

REMOVABLE, such as Clear Liners and Removable Retainers, and FIXED, such as Braces and Fixed Retainers.

As with our other products, teeth impressions are necessary before we begin our design and manufacturing processes. We take both traditional and digital impressions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Retainers

What are the Differences Between Removable and Fixed Retainers?

The most obvious difference lies in their convenience to the patient. Removable retainers are not only able to be taken out of a patient’s mouth freely, but are easier to maintain and clean than fixed retainers.

Removable retainers are similar to clear liners, and are made of a transparent material, usually plastic.

Fixed retainers are similar to braces, as they are composed of a stainless steel wire fixed on to the teeth with glue. Unlike braces, they are placed behind the teeth, so that a patient’s smile can remain clearly visible while being held in place.

What are the Benefits of Fixed Retainers over Removable Retainers?

While it may not seem apparent at first, fixed retainers can actually benefit a patient more over the long term if they are too busy with their schedules or are prone to forgetting things that are not habitual for them.

Patients must remember to use their removable retainer daily to ensure that their teeth do not shift back into malocclusion, and they must also take due diligence to clean their removable retainers to avoid bacteria and calcium buildup. Having a dirty retainer only further complicates oral health and can lead to halitosis and even yeast infections.

A fixed retainer can solve the above issues as patients always have it on, and they can clean it as part of their normal routine of brushing and rinsing their teeth twice a day.
